Roulette Basics

This page is a basic guide on how to play roulette. If you are completely new to the game, or a relatively new player then this information is for you.
The roulette wheel comprises of 36 numbers (1-36) and either one or two zeros. The board for betting consists of:
1. Even money bets such as Red-Black, Odds-Evens, and High Number-Low Numbers.
2. 2:1 bets such as 1-12, 13-24, and 25-36; and any of the 3 columns
3. Bets directly on the main numbers board

In turn bets on the main numbers board mainly fall into 3 types:
1. Straight-up (directly on a number, usually paying 35:1)
2. Splits (on the line between two numbers, usually paying 17:1)
3. Corners (on the intersection between four numbers, usually paying 8:1)

You may place chips on any combination of these bets that you desire, so if you fancied betting a few numbers straight-up, a few splits, and a load of corners, then you can, no problem.

The house derives a small edge by the presence of the zero. You are allowed to bet on the zero and it pays 35-1 the same as any other number.

Once the bulk of bets are placed the croupier will spin the ball in the wheel and you'll have a few more seconds to place any last bets. Once the ball lands all winning bets are paid out. So for example if you had placed $5 straight-up on numbers 4,7,12,17,34 and 36, and then it lands in number 12 then you will get paid $175 plus your $5 will stay on number 12, basically making it $180 (because you can remove that $5 from the board if you wish).
